Slow Mow May

About Slow Mow May

Slow Mow May is a community science initiative that encourages property owners to reduce lawn mowing practices during the month of May to provide early season foraging resources for pollinators that emerge in the spring, especially in urban landscapes when few floral resources are available.

In 2023, the City also encourages residents to look beyond the month of May toward year-round sustainable yard care practices that promote a healthier local ecosystem.

The Vadnais Heights City Council approved a resolution in support of Slow Mow May at its April 4, 2023 meeting.
View Resolution #23-04-058

Slow Mow May is an optional, opt-in activity for residents wishing to participate. The City is working to identify and implement maintenance practices for our public spaces around the city that support a healthy and sustainable environment in May and throughout the year.
